      The catalyst resistance to carbon deposition for reforming natural gas with carbon dioxide to produce synthesis gas was studied by using a fixed-bed pulse reactor chromatography as well as XRD, TPR, XPS and TEM techniques. It was found that, the additions of rare earth RE_2O_3 and MGO to Ni/Al_2O_3 catalyst would decrease the activity of carbon deposition of CH_4 and increase the activity of carbon eliminati on by CO_2. This would increase the catalytic resistance property to carbon deposition increase of d-electron density of the surface Ni atoms. A model of carbon due to deposition on the catalyst was put forward. The catalytic resistance to carbon deposition would be increased greatly by increasig the Ni dispersion and increasing the interaction between the Ni active site and the carrier. The activity of Ni/Al_2O_3 catalyst promoted by RE_2O_3 and MgO did not diminish at all during 800 h on stream of CO_2/natural gas=2.4/1 at 1023 K or CO2/natural gas=1.4/1 at 1123 K. This indicated that the Ni/ Al_2O_3 catalyst promoted by RE_2O_3 and MgO not only has a high activity and selectivity, but also has a high stability and a good resistance to carbon deposition for reforming natural gas with carbon dioxide.
